My first exposure to Desktop Army & it was like stuffing a high grade into a candy toy! - Beginning with a short introduction to the character; Himukai Rin is a character from the third person space shooter mecha musume game, "Alice Gear Aegis" (or AGA for short). She was one of the three new freshly joined crew members in chapter two and specializes in fire elemental hammer type weapons. She is strong, athletic, loud and lively, and likes to write in bold with a marker. Unfortunately, she was the only one in the trio amongst Agatsuma and Takanashi to not get a figure release until this DA kit. Although in a semi-SD body, it still captures the might and bulk of her special gears very faithfully. As for the figure itself, everything is warpped seperately in their plastic envelopes much like a standardized model kit. But what is unlike most model kit is that the main figure is completely pre-painted and pre-assembled as well as a good number of parts on the runner; meaning the only busy works that customers need to do in order to acheive good results are snipping parts off the runner and cleaning the nubs. The full assembly of the entire kit doesnt take too long as I managed to put everything and clean up the nubs in less than an hour and a half. The weaponizing features, despite being in SD, looks impressive. Starting off with the top gears are two gigantic foldable claws that gives her a formidable and much more intimidating silhouette. For their in game spec, they can be deployed only once per battled for a limited time and it changes her melee into the claws. The combos are relatively strong and the last hit always end with a massive shock wave that damages everything around Himukai, but it didn't have the extra powerful final finishing move that Kaneshiya has with her claws thus it only, truly shines the most when taking down bosses. However, it still looks amazing and for anyone that will go for the extra effort to paint the pink parts in metallic finishes, you'll have an awesome piece of mecha-eye candy. The bottom gear is composed of her leg units and two homing missle launchers to each of their sides. The articulations are limited due to designs, but enough for aerial posing. Additionally, the feets resembles that of a boar's which was a nice nod to the name and the missel launchers connects and extend from the clear colored "back pack". The missels launchers nooo bad they didnt include any effect parts for it because they easily the most useful weapon on her. Overall, decent bottom gears, but overshadowed by the much more impressive top gears. The two (or three) hand held weapons are her bazooka, hammer, and a yellow beam saber. The bazooka has the same nitpick that I had for Figma's Takanashi in regards to their lack of articulations. It looks really nice, but is just a solid piece that doesnt really have any moving parts although granted none of the pieces were shown to be able to move in game, it would have still been nice for them to take the liberty of adding a few. But what they did took liberty of was the hammer; all four corners are interchangeable and you can select between the axe form and hammer form, kinda neat. The third weapon is a yellow beam saber which I don't remember her ever using or having one at all; it must have been a bonus design on courtesy of Mega House. It is also very reminiscent to Providence Gundam's gauntlet, or Deathsythe's composite shield/beam saber. Overall, three great looking and solid hand held weapons, but a little too much emphasis on the word "solid". In summary, this was a surprisingly fun product; I didn't have any expectations coming into this and especially when the motive behind the purchase was solely out of the character's fun in game impression, it managed be a blast from the beginning to the end. First off, the unboxing. The box size wasn't anything huge as it was around the half size of an average figma box; but as soon as I've opened it, its stuffed to the brim almost like a spring loaded trap. Second, despite the stigma for toys or figure that are in SD to be considered lower quality in general, none of it look nor feels BS. The designs and execution are pretty much on par with a full scale model kit and the numerous pre-painted parts are welcomed. The only and main criticism that decided on a 4 star for value is the lack of additional facial expressions. I would have love it if there is one or two more faces and for Himukai especially, she would have been PERFECT if this kit includes that cocky smirk right as the camera shows her entering the battle field. Other than that, it's one of the higher end of the Desktop Army line and so is the price. It's a little expensive but would have been more justified with more facial expressions. However, its still tons of fun and the compatibility amongst them offers just enough play options. As soon as I was done with this, I knew that I have to order Kaneshiya's Tenki version to go along with it. And I'm also tempted by the black version too.... PS: In order to redeem the bonus present code, players must go to a specific URL on one of the product page and enter your game ID and screen name. I was using a three stars Himukai and did got her Gullinbursti gears and weapons legit before this purchase, but because each of these gears takes up a huge chunk of "space costs" onto the character, you'll also need a 4 stars Himukai to be able to equip everything from this package onto her. This is also true for every other AGA products that include the bonus code. If you don't have the 4 stars character of whoever the special gear is for, you can only use equip one or two parts maximum, and only to that character because the game doesnt allow players kit bashing special gears.....
